ISD 2906, Red Lake County Central Schools
School District News, by Superintendent Guetter
Welcome to RLCC and the 2017-18 School Year!
The biggest changes since school let out last spring has been with some facility improvements at both schools.
At the Elementary school, the gym and stage areas have been painted and a new RLCC sign has been hung. We have also installed another layer of security with entrance cameras and lock system, so you may have to get buzzed in depending on what time of day you come to the school. We are continuing to keep up with the advancements in technology, with Chromebooks for grades 5 & 6 and more I-pads for the younger grades, as well as infrastructure upgrades for accessibility and speed.
At the High School we have put down carpet in the east wing hallway and classrooms, and replaced the carpet in the music room and one science classroom. Some plumbing improvements in the Shop/Home Ec building and a science lab have also been completed. Resurfacing of the parking lot and wall pads in the wrestling room are scheduled to be done soon. And yes technology with a couple more Smart Boards I classrooms, a new firewall for security, and upgrades for wireless access points.
Enrollment is holding steady with the number of K-12 students over the last six years fluctuating between 370 and 380.
The Sports Boosters are lining up workers for the fall season and will have signup sheets at the school open house events on Wednesday August 30th. Please get involved as they help provide many opportunities for our students-athletes as well as other activities. They also provide financial support to families and students in the form of reimbursement for half the cost of your student’s activity fees and for camp costs with reimbursement up to $50 per student per sport or activity. I’d like to also mention they do a lot of things to help with the overall quality of the programs for our students. Sports Booster membership is for all parents of 7-12th graders once your child begins to participate in any of the High School activities such as Speech, Theatre, Knowledge Bowl or any of the sports, then you are a member and are expected to work.
For your Attention:
The Elementary milk break has been fully supported by the Plummer Lion’s Club, so please thank a Lion and continue to support their initiatives. The Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program for the elementary school will also continue again this school year. I would like to thank the many generous donors that have helped with their financial support of the program along with the school board for committing to the program to provide fruits and vegetables for the afternoon snack free of cost for students for this upcoming school year. So this leads me to make sure everyone is aware of the financial impact of filling out the FREE & REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM APPLICATIONS.
PLEASE MAKE A SPECIAL EFFORT TO FILL OUT AND RETURN YOUR FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS BY OCTOBER 1. Why I am asking this is;
RLCC is now entering the second year of a State program directly related to free & reduced lunch rates, Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program for four year olds. Last year RLCC was awarded funding for voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four year olds, with no charge to parents. We would not have received this without your help applying for the free & reduced meals program.
Please fill out and return the forms to either school site. If you would like assistance in filling out the form, please call either school and we can help you. All information is confidential. If you have any questions, please call the school or stop in.
One more thing, with the start of school just around the corner, do your kids a favor and help them get prepared to get back into the schedule for school. Things like bed times and wake up times, schedule changes, doctor and dentist appointments taken care of, and to just talk to them about the upcoming school year, their friends and teachers.
Thank you for taking time to do these two things.
